Open Studio

Wednesdays noon until 2 PM Artists are welcome to join us for a "drop-in" art-making session. Please call ahead, because it is not always open. If drawing or painting is not your thing, you can journal, write essays, poetry, your autobiography, short stories, or novels. It's at The Awakenings Project Studio.

Reaching Out

Several members of The Awakenings Project have led "Imagery Journaling" at the late, great Larkin Center in Elgin, at West Chicago Terrace nursing home and at Wheaton Care Center. We've also led art groups at theDuPage Convalescent Center.  The groups were project-oriented, and each member created a functional and beautiful piece of artwork with a little help from Awakenings. All of these programs were partially supported by a grant from the Community Arts Access Program, which is funded by The Illinois Arts Council, a state agency, and the now unfortunately defunct Hinsdale Center for the Arts. JULY 15 - OCTOBER 10, 2016

During July, we have an exhibit at the fabulous Elgin Artspace Lofts interior gallery space, courtesy of resident artist Peter Austin. Then some of those pieces will move for the whole month of September into the new and exciting Art Area Studio 51 gallery on the southwest corner of the Elgin Artspace Lofts building, 51 S. Spring St., in Elgin. They will actually still be up until October 10th.

OCTOBER 2 - 23, 2016 Burning Bush Art Gallery in Wheaton, a ministry of the Gary United Methodist Church invited us back again this year for our sixth show in their beautiful gallery. Thanks Tony Asta and Bill Austin! You two are the greatest gallery directors we know. The Opening Reception took place on Sunday, October 2nd. There will be an open mic night on Saturday, October 15th, beginning at 7:30 PM. Please join us to listen, speak, and/or sing. Also, there will be a Mandala Making Workshop, led by Irene on Sunday, October 23rd, beginning at 1 PM. Be there or be square (Mandalas are based on the circle).
