September 8 - October 6, 2013, Burning Bush Gallery, Wheaton IL
We've been invited back again to exhibit at the fabulous Burning Bush Gallery, next door to (and part of) the Gary United Methodist Church. This will be our third time helping them raise awareness of the creative talents of those of us with mental illnesses, during Mental Illness Awareness Week, the first full week in October. Date of the opening reception is Sunday, September 8th from 1 - 4 PM, poetry readings/music will be on Friday, September 27th from 7 - 9 PM. By request, we have added a Closing Reception and FUNdraiser on Sunday, October 6th from 1 - 3 PM. Hope to see you there!.
October 10-11, 2013, Macalester College, St. Paul, MN
Awakenings has been invited to exhibit work at Macalester College's 20th Annual International Roundtable. We've been invited to set up a display in Markim Hall and interact with students, faculty and community members in advance of a student-led panel discussion about mental health. Sean T. Lamb and Irene Lamb O'Neill will be there on Oct. 10th and 11th, exhibiting art and answering questions.
October 13, through October31, 2013, NAMI-Dubuque, IA (see page 3)
We've been invited to partner with NAMI-Dubuque, IA in conjunction with the play, "Next to Normal." We will have an art exhbition, also have recent issues of The Awakenings Review on sale, and perhaps have a little showcase of our own Awakenings Drama troupe. Opening Reception will be on October 13th from noon - 4 PM at the Gallery of Clarke University in Dubuque.
October 18th, at NAMI-IL Conference in Itasca, IL
Irene will be presenting a Recovery Activity - Attendees will be invited to express their message of recovery on a 12" square of fabric, either by writing, drawing, painting, or a combination. This activity will provide people from all over Illinois with the start to create their very own recovery quilts for their affiliates.
February 19 - 23, 2014, Pop-up exhibit at SideStreet Studio Arts, Elgin, IL
Wednesday thru Sunday, we've been invited to put up a short-term (pop-up) exhibit at the fabulous Side Street Studios in Elgin, near our studio. More info to follow later.
April 25 - June 22, 2014, In an exciting turn of events, and for the first time ever, we have been asked to exhibit at (Irene's alma mater) North Central College's Schoenherr Art Gallery in the Wentz Concert Hall. And we have a whole year to prepare, so it's going to be a spectacular exhibition! Opening Reception date will be Friday evening, May 2nd from 6 - 8 PM..
(Tentatively) Glitch Gallery, Elmhurst IL
We've been invited by author, Roz Long, to have an exhibition to showcase her new book, "Creative Journey of Bi-Polar Disorder," from which a percentage of the proceeds will generously be donated to The Awakenings Project.
Date to be announced, (tentative) Check back for more details if/when they become available about a possible show in the main area of The Gail Borden Library in Elgin.
