"Art was like medicine to me from an early age. I received my BFA and then MFA from The School of The Art institute of Chicago. In between I was diagnosed with major depression. My life would never be the same again. After college I taught a little and then had the great experience to travel. It was travel that really influenced my work. I realized that it was not what or where I painted but how I painted that mattered. Awakenings has opened many doors for me as both an artist and a person. I have served on the board of directors from the beginning. I have helped to curate art shows, review submissions for The Awakenings Review, and have been able to give back to the community by volunteering. Awakenings has been a gift to me."
